On the occasion of World Environment Day

Children have informed about the importance of this day, major challenges our earth is facing and most importantly about this year's theme "Air Pollution".
All students have taken pledge to use environment friendly products as far as possible and to work as "Agents of Change" by telling their parents and all people of the village to do the same.
A light of hope in the darkness : Visit Report

Similar situation exists for boys as well. We rarely met any boy of age more than 15 studying at our centre mostly because they help their family by earning some money doing part-time job. In the village there is only one primary government school and one urdu school. Some of the little faces who attend urdu school don't know how to write their names in hindi/english they lag behind others who goes to primary school in terms of modern education.
In the above all hardships, there is still some hope, some of the parents understand the importance of modern education and they were very much eager to communicate with our team. We got to know about a student Afzal, studying in class 4 at our center and amazingly, he is preparing for Navodaya Entrance Exam. Then a little face, Ashfaq, popped out saying sir, I too want to prepare for Navodaya, upon questioning he told he is studying in class 2 and got 84 % marks in his final term of class 1 exam.
Apart from little boys, there were some of angels there who were so much excited to talk to team e.g. Rajia, Gulfisa, Salmona, Parmina etc. studying in primary classes accompanied team during the village visit and they are also regular in attending classes. All these little faces especially girls, students preparing for Navodaya and all others are being given proper mentoring and guidance.
Some parents understand and are aware of the importance of education while others don't. The Parent-Teacher Meeting serves the purpose of counselling of parents and villagers making them understand the importance of education in everyone's life and encourage them to send their wards to primary schools and our centre.
At the end, there is a hope on the little faces studying at our centre that they will do better in their future life and a hope in us that we will strive for the best for them.
Babhniyawan, a typical village in Bahraich district in UP, where most of the villagers are farmers and totally dependent on their farm products for daily livelihoods. The transport facility to reach the village is as such that people must have their own two wheeler to reach the village or walk for a distance of almost 15 kms as no public transport facility is available directly to the village.
In the village there is school facility available only up to class 8 (that too only one primary govt. school till class 5 and one govt. high school till class 8). If one want to study beyond that he/she has to travel atleast 15 kms (going & returning back to home) to go to secondary school.
AGAM started it's centre in the village almost two years ago and encouraged students specially girls to step up, take a bicycle and go to secondary schools out of the village to complete her education as the general norms for girls were to leave study after class 8.
Now this year probably the first batch of girls of class 10 has passed out from the village.
Pooja Devi is such a student of the regular batch at our centre and passed out the class 10th from UP board this year. Although scored less marks in some subjects she is a laborious student and really worked hard to get this result. She travelled 15 kms daily on bicycle (going and coming back from school) to achieve this.
Congrats Pooja Devi and all such girl students stepping out of the village for their higher studies.
